This was the cheapest print server I could find online (50 bucks shipped). I used another Hawking product (directional wifi antenna) in the past and I was happy with it so I gave another shot. It works beautifully with HP LaserJet 3050 USB printer / scanner. Please note that this printer is not in the list of supported printers list of manufacturer. Maybe that's why it didn't work out of box but when I upgraded the firmware to 2.33 it recognized the printer and worked fine. I tested on both Win 7 64 and 32 (print and scan). Software is very nice.

I purchased this because it was one of the very few multi-function print servers that listed my Canon MP830 MFP. When I received it, I tried to install it but it was not detecting the printer properly, it only saw the fax portion. I called tech support and they told me I had to call back between M-F 9-5 Pacific time to talk with a level 2 tech. I called on a Monday at 3 pacific and they said I had to call back the next day as their level 2 tech wasn't available. I called back on Tuesday at the same time, and I got the same run around, that I had to call back first thing in the morning. Since I work, I'm unable to do that and just decided to return the item back to Amazon, which so far has been the easiest thing to do thanks to Amazon's great return setup. I'm just going to spend a little bit more and by a network capable printer.

I bought the Haking, Belkin and Keyspan Tripplite. The Keyspan Tripplite was just a pain. There was a recent driver on their website for Mac but no instructions on what to do with it. When I downloaded and doubleclicked it, Mac OS tried to open it with Text Edit. The Belkin was better but auto-connect and disconnect just didn't work right. I'd have to wait what felt like a minute or more for a print out to come out after the auto-connect connected. Even when manually connected I still could not use the scanner. No thank you.
The Hawking was the smallest, cheapest and easiest to install. It worked first try and even with my office's VPN-connected XP laptop. Unlike the Belkin, I didn't have to play with firewall rules. My only gripe is that it does not have a driver for Mac so to print from my Mac I have to manually unplug the USB cable from the server and plug it in to the back of the Mac, then plug the printer back into the server when done. I emailed support several days ago asking for a Mac driver and never heard from them. I have multiple computers connected to my router, wired and wireless. They all auto-connect and print fine using the Hawking print server with my Canon MFP 4150. So far I've had to manually connect to scan when initiating the scan from the printer. That makes sense. If the request comes from the printer instead of one of the PCs, how should the USB server know which one to connect it to. There is a "network scanner" button in the user interface. I have not played enough with it yet.
As long as you don't care that it's not Mac, Linux or Unix compatible, I recommend it.

For the price of this unit I would expect something of a superior quality. The unit is small and easy to hide, easy to connect but that's as much as I can positively say. The unit comes with almost no instructions (a simple 3 pages booklet). You can check online for instructions but they are weak and vague as well. The configuration is at the best, complicated. After trying several things I called tech support. That is another story. You will get someone in India (you know from now what I was dealing with). The first level of support seems not to know anything about IT, up to the point of having no idea what the Print Mode (Queued or Raw) is. After 3 tries, I got a second level support specialist. That guy knew a little bit more than his 1st level colleagues, but he did not have any idea on how to configure this unit correctly, up to the point to tell me my printer wasn't supported when it is listed in their 'supported printers list'. Then he blamed it on the driver which works fantastic if I connect the printer directly to the PC via USB port. Finally, I stop calling them and I decided to do some investigation on my side before starting the RMA process. I discovered you need to do a little trick to make this work correctly (just needed to think laterally instead of straight forward). After several tries, I got it up and running, not for Hawking tech support intervention but for the amount of hours of try, rethink, error and retry cycles. In the end, this unit cost me more than the price I paid for it. My best recommendation, if you are not an IT geek, stay away from this product.

I have not been able to get the system to re-rout the print spool thru the print server to the printer. I only get the message, "File failed to print"
