I was reluctant to get this due to the low processing power, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I am not streaming HD movies from it to anything but for backing up multiple computers and file sharing it works great. I only wish the development community was a little larger so I could add more programs and spend more time getting familiar with my server.

I have had this WHS since July 2009 and it has worked perfectly. I have added 3 more HD's for a total of about 4.5 TB. I am a little computer savvy and have modified a few things on it by going into Remote Desktop - for one I installed the "Tivo Desktop" application so it can directly download and serve my shows to all the Tivo's in my house. The only trick here is that in order for it to run, you must be log in as the administrator and then exit Remote Desktop without logging out. I did remove the McAfee virus software as well. I just have my main computer monitor the WHS with its virus software. Another thing I have done is taken my old computers/laptops and backed them up onto the server so I can access the information. I am always afraid that I will forget to back up something and loose it when I wipe an old computer, this has set my mind as ease. This Acer WHS has really helped me get my computers, data and files organized.

*** SUBSIDIARY INFORMATION (a.k.a. don't reinvent the wheel)
This is long, so be warned. I bought this server to store data, to backup and to be able to serve content.
For the backup, look at William W. Davis review and others.
To store data, it's flawless... everything also appears as a shared folder, obviously.
*** CONTENT SERVER
To serve content, I couldn't be happier. So far, so good. Together with my WDTV live, I can watch even 1080p content and listen to all my CDs that I converted to lossless digital some time ago. The WDTV live is not gigabit, but everything works fine.
It works with players both as a NAS (think: shared folders) and as "Windows Media Connect" (or something like that), which is basically useless to me because it seems to support neither flac nor MKV.
*** BLACK BOX, SEEMS LIMITED ON PURPOSE
Besides everything that has been said here on Amazon, I must add that I'd prefer a more transparent solution. I may be doing something wrong, but I'm unable to really "look inside" the server, as its interface is limited to the "functions" it has available to the computers on a network... you can't access the server as a normal computer. Or at least I couldn't.
For example... I tried to plug an external HD, just to give network visibility to the HDD contents. But the server insists that I either want to 1) backup the drive; or 2) "Use the drive". Option 2 actually means that it will format the drive and use it as free space for backups. Anyway... WHS feels cumbersome to me, but of course... "your mileage may vary."
That said, I'm looking forward to install some Linux/BSD solution, since there are some Linux services that I would like to use on it. They should have provided a VGA port to open this black box ("black" in a technical meaning, no pun intended). It's even available, but not to the end user.
You can, however, buy an special adapter/cable in order to expose the VGA and PS2 functions. After that you place a jumper in an specific place in order to enable startup configuration (boot sequence, all that). That way your server can act as a full and true mini server. Search the net if you want to learn about it.
*** BUILD QUALITY (and the HDD drawer issue)
Build quality is very good, and the drawers do not appear flimsy to me. I'm careful with my stuff, but even then I think it's not that easy to break it like some people say. I even tested many times to see how I would be able to break it on purpose... just to "feel" the build quality. My conclusion is that it's OK. And of course, I didn't break any. :-)
There seems to be, however, an specific way to push them. When putting the drawer back into the case, you need to leave the front face opened. Then, push it almost all the way inside, gently, until it stops. It will stop before going completely into the case (like an inch or less). Then, close the front face of the drawer while performing the final push (perform both actions simultaneously).
You'll see that while you close the front face it allows you to perform the final push to put the drawer in the final position, all the way into the case. This all will make sense when you do it personally.
*** USER ACCOUNTS AND PASSWORD
Just to be clear: for everything I use, I do NOT need to have the same user account and password that I use on my notebook. The difference is that the server will ask you your login information if you don't do so, when you connect from your computer.
*** EXTERNAL ACCESS
I don't need to have it exposed to the external network (the WAN side of things), so I didn't research yet if any router configuration, like NAT tables, is needed for that.
Anyway, I don't believe that the server will pose a problem, at least not more than it already is. I mean, NAT (if needed for this server, I'm not sure) and port redirection (needed if your ISP blocks ports that you want to use) may be a problem of its own for the user that has no idea about all this. Don't kill me if this is obvious to you. Some people need those clues.
*** OTHER AND FINAL THOUGHTS
I plan to add another WD10EADS soon. I may update this when I do so.
The server runs cool (even working on 90F climates like here) and its power supply is universal, which is a deal breaker to me because I live in 220V/60Hz.
Other than that, the fan is very, very quiet. It's not a problem at all.
So... I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. The ability to plug a VGA/ps2 adapter and tinker with this server makes it even more interesting. As I said, WHS is cumbersome, but since this complete package does everything it promised (harder to find these days), I see no reason to take away one star. Actually, I proudly give it a full 5/5 because it's able to do even more than what is promised with little extra effort.

I purchased an Acer Aspire H340 through Amazon a little over a year ago. The unit was delivered while I was at work and waiting for me when I got home that evening. It was easy to setup. I had it plugged into the network and downloading updates from Microsoft within an hour. I had configured all 3 of my computers for backups by 10PM that night and my backups were completed when I checked them the next morning. Could not be happier with the product. It has worked flawlessly as a file sharing/backup device. I added 3 additional TB drives to the unit over the next month to increase the storage. I logon through the console and check on it about once a week and reboot it after Patch Tuesday to ensure any patches complete installing. It does exactly what I purchased it for (file share/backup solution)and I could not be happier.

The HomeServer from Ace was very easy to setup, with only one minor issue being the internet setup for remote login. After two days of searching the web, I found out that the issue was not with the server, but my home gateway setup. Since a sucessfull setup of the gateway the system now works extremelly well.
